DELHI GOVT WILL BEAR STUDENTS' EXAM FEES FROM NEXT YEAR

In a felicitation ceremony organised by the government for students and their parents to celebrate their class 12 results, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal made this announcement. There were over 1,000 students and their families at the event.

Congratulating the students and the parents, Kejriwal said, "I am happy to share that over 1,000 children from Delhi's government schools have scored more than 90 percent marks. I feel immense pride that government schools have a pass percentage of 94, beating private schools for the fourth time in a row."

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said, "Access to high-quality education is the right of all children. Education cannot be a matter of charity. The government will pay the exam fee of students. Soon, the government will arrange coaching for the NEET and JEE aspirants," stressing on the fact that every child needed to be educated. Scholarship for students scoring above 80% has also been increased to ₹2,500 and the rider on the family income was also removed.

Over the last couple of years, there has been a shift from students applying to government schools over private ones. "Today, a majority of requests I receive are for admission to government schools. Earlier children had an inferiority complex about studying in government schools. Today, they are proud of government schools," Kejriwal said.
