Had 54 Surgeries: Rangoli Shares the Ordeal of Acid Attack on Her


Kangana Ranaut’s sister Rangoli Chandel has been a supporter for tougher laws against acid attack accused and sale of acid. Being an acid attack survivor, she has now come out with her story and how she dealt with the ordeal.

She took to Twitter to share a picture from her college annual day, and said that shortly after that picture was taken she was attacked by a man who threw acid on her face.

Rangoli wrote, “Shortly after this image was clicked, the guy whose proposal I refused threw one litre acid on my face, I had to go through 54 surgeries strangely and simultaneously my little sister was physically assaulted and almost beaten to death for what ?”

Her followers replied to her praising her bravery and courage to face the situation. One such user asked her about how she tackled the hardship, to which Rangoli replied, “I don’t know wat to say honestly I had given up on my life, my now husband bt back den jst a normal friend washd my wounds &waited outside operation theatres fr years vry supportive sister & parents collectively breathed life in to me.. can’t take credit fr wat my life is today.”

The attack took place in Dehradun, where she was studying engineering. Talking about the physical pain and transformation she had to go through, she shared that she had to undergo 54 corrective surgeries after the attack, and still doctors weren’t able to reconstruct her left ear. Rangoli also had to get an retina transplant done as the attack damaged her left eye and one breast too.

In her tweets, she also touched upon the need for reservation for acid attack survivors, which could have helped her. She said that ‘despite being a university topper, she couldn’t manage to get a reservation because she spent 5 years of her youth in operation theatres.’

Calling the acid attack accused ‘sadak chaap romeos’, Rangoli said that these men are a big evil of the society and it’s not those individuals but the mentality that needs to be eradicated.
